Penn Medicine hospital lays off behavioral health staff, then gives raises

Lancaster (Pa.) General Health, part of Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine, is giving workers four percent pay increases about two weeks after it laid off numerous behavioral health staff, LancasterOnline reported April 12.

The hospital announced layoffs March 29, the report said. It included about half of its behavioral intervention management and coordination team, or 18 employees, as well as the elimination of its overnight behavioral intervention shift.

The hospital said the total number of layoffs was fewer than 65, but did not specify further, the report said. "Eligible" employees will see four percent base pay increases beginning May 28, though the organizations offered no eligibility definition.
