Pediatric behavioral telehealth provider to exit markets, lay off staff: 5 notes

Brightline, a pediatric behavioral telehealth provider, is shifting focus to brick-and-mortar clinics.

In a Sept. 28 blog post, Brightline CEO Naomi Allen said the company will scale down to a few geographic areas, and add in-person clinics to augment its telehealth offerings. The company currently offers telehealth services in every state.

Here are five things to know:

  1. With the pivot comes layoffs, Ms. Allen wrote, though the company did not say how many employees were affected.

"I have a very heavy heart letting go of such talented people, and recognizing that we will be discontinuing services in many geographies where Brightline has had tremendous impact," Ms. Allen wrote.

The company has conducted layoffs in the past, laying off 20% of its staff in 2022 and again in 2023.

  2. The company will add clinics in the markets it remains in, Ms. Allen wrote. Brightline will continue to offer virtual services in these markets as well.

  3. Brightline will also shift to supporting higher-acuity patients, Ms. Allen wrote.

  4. The company will end new intake on Nov. 1, and pay clinicians retention bonuses to support members in active care.

  5. Brightline Health is one of two companies receiving $500 million to provide free mental health support to children in California.
