Out-of-pocket cost of naloxone at major pharmacies

The importance of naloxone, a medication that reverses the effects of opioid overdose, has grown as the rate of drug-related overdose deaths in the United States has risen.

From 2019 to 2020, the rate of overdose-related deaths in the U.S. grew 31 percent, according to CDC data.

Groups such as the National Institute on Drug Abuse are taking steps to facilitate access to naloxone to those who need it with measures, including making the drug more widely available.
