Optum, Cigna contribute to $130M funding round for therapist practice startup

Alma, a network providing administrative assistance to independent mental health practitioners, raised $130 million in funding led by software investment firm Thoma Bravo and companies including Cigna and Optum.

"By centering therapists at the forefront, Alma is creating a sustainable business model that helps providers accept insurance, grow their private practice and reach more people seeking care," Harry Ritter, MD, Alma founder and CEO, said in an Aug. 25 news release from the company.

Alma can be used by its members to help independent practices accept insurance; it also provides management tools, including telehealth software, automated billing and scheduling capabilities.
