Optum aims to break ground in behavioral health

Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking to improve access and cost of care for those seeking behavioral health services in multiple ways.

The healthcare services company, alongside clinical mental health experts, has developed data analytics that can be used to create a tailored care plan for Optum members, including personalized autism care plans, according to its website.

Optum members looking for care can partake in a guided questionnaire on its website to create their personal plan. The questionnaire includes questions related to cost, whether support is needed for the person answering the questionnaire or someone else, mental health symptoms and goals.

Members may also be asked to complete a clinical assessment following the questionnaire. They are then given recommendations for support services or treatment based on their benefits package.

The website also compares different kinds of mental health professionals — such as therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists — and gives members information on what to expect with services.
