Ohio launches $20M behavioral health research initiative

Ohio has launched a new $20 million research initiative focused on the root causes of behavioral health issues across the state.

The initiative was formed in partnership with Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio State University, according to a Jan. 19 news release. The State of Ohio Adversity and Resilience, or SOAR, study will focus on the biological, psychological, and social factors leading to persistent emotional distress, suicide and drug overdose throughout Ohio.

The study will be led by clinicians and researchers at Columbus, Ohio-based OSU's Wexner Medical Center and College of Medicine, in addition to several other universities across the state. The statewide research project is funded by an initial $20 million grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
