NYC Health+Hospitals has $1M to ease mental health clinicians' student debt: Do you qualify?

NYC Health + Hospitals' Behavioral Health Loan Repayment Program allocates $1 million in aid to help behavioral health professionals with student debt.

The program will provide grants to eligible mental health clinicians, including psychiatrists, psychiatric physician assistants, psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed clinical psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, to assist with loan repayment.

Physicians will be eligible for a maximum of $50,000 in loan forgiveness, and nonphysician practitioners will be eligible for a maximum of $30,000.

To be eligible, applicants must: 

  1. Work a minimum of three years full-time at NYC Health+Hospitals,
  2. Have graduated from a relevant degree program, including international programs
  3. Become licensed and/or board-certified within five years of completing training, with some exceptions, 
  4. Be in good standing with their clinical discipline’s licensing body,
  5. Not be receiving loan forgiveness from another source, 
  6. Never have received loan forgiveness or repayment from any of NYC Health+Hospitals' other repayment programs,
  7. Be a US citizen or permanent resident alien holding an I-155 or I-551 card.
