Nevada county buys psychiatric hospital

Clark County in Nevada purchased an unused psychiatric hospital to turn it into a behavioral health crisis stabilization center, the Nevada Current reported March 8.

The 24-bed hospital was purchased for $10.4 million and will reopen with a crisis stabilization unit pilot program at the end of the year. The program will offer short-term behavioral healthcare, including psychiatric stabilization and substance withdrawal treatment.

The program is funded through partnerships with the state and county and will be evaluated after one year on whether or not it's feasible to continue, the report said.
