Nebraska county plans $55M mental health center

Officials in a Nebraska county are investing $55 million into building a mental health facility to serve the Douglas County area, NBC affiliate WOWT reported Nov. 21.

The county’s commissioners are developing plans for a standalone mental health facility or one connected to the county’s jail, according to the news station. Currently, the Douglas County Community Mental Health Center treats inmates with mental health issues as well as county residents.

Committee members told WOWT the goal of the facility is to create long-term mental healthcare resources for the community.
