The National Alliance on Mental Illness and Health Management Associates launched the national collaborative for crisis systems innovation to support behavioral health crisis care systems nationwide.

The initiative builds on four years of work since the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline launched in 2022 and will “serve as a national hub for coordination, learning and action” focused on strengthening 988 and the broader behavioral health crisis continuum, according to a May 12 news release from NAMI.

The collaborative aims to unite public and private stakeholders to support state and communities in developing coordination crisis response systems. The organizations said the effort will focus on cross-sector collaboration, innovation and shared learning.

NAMI has more than 650 local affiliates and 49 state organizations nationwide. Health Management Associates is a consulting firm specializing in publicly funded healthcare and human services policy, financing and evaluation, according to the release.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
