Milwaukee mental health emergency center set to open in September

Milwaukee’s new mental health emergency center in the downtown area, will open Sept. 6, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

The center was relocated from near Wauwatosa, a less-populated city, to an area where more patients with mental health needs are located, according to the report.

“For the first time we’re looking at what’s best for the people that need this service and really focused on making it an experience that’s better for them versus the previous systems, which didn’t really adequately serve them,” Michael Lappen, the center’s behavioral health services administrator, told the publication Aug. 15.

The facility is collaborating with community-based care organizations to better coordinate patient care.
