The $700,000 in funding will come from the $598 million spending plan for fiscal year 2023, beginning July 1.
The co-response team will be dispatched to a broad category of emergency calls, including drug overdoses, intoxicated people, people experiencing mental health crisis, suicdie crisis, panhandling, neighborhood disputes, disorderly juveniles and more.
In response to the April 4 police killing of Patrick Lyoya, the city quadrupled the annual budget of the police oversight office, from $405,781 to $1.7 million, MLive reported May 24.
The city will also invest $26.7 million into housing and housing stability and about $6 million to the city’s Affordable Housing Fund, City Manager Mark Washington told MLive.
