Michigan budget includes $193M for behavioral health

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has included $193.3 million in her proposed budget for the next fiscal year to increase the number of behavioral health centers across the state.

The funds would be used to support the expansion of certified community behavioral health clinics in Michigan, according to a Feb. 7 news release. This expansion aims to offer behavioral health services for 50,000 additional residents.

The proposed budget also included $7.3 million to ensure access to the Michigan Crisis and Access Line. Other proposals include $36.1 million to increase rates for behavioral health services and $8.3 million to develop reimbursement for peer-provided substance use disorder services through Medicaid, the Soo Leader reported Feb. 26.
