Augusta-based MaineGeneral Health is cutting some pediatric mental health services, the Portland Press Herald reported May 5.
Nathan Howell, CEO of MaineGeneral, told the newspaper the system will no longer offer pediatric psychological services as of May 16. The system is also closing its Pediatric Rapid Evaluation Program, which provides services to children recently placed in foster care.
Mr. Howell cited inadequate reimbursements from the state, excessive denials from payers and rising costs of business as reasons for the cuts, the Press Herald reported.
In March, MaineGeneral said it planned to eliminate around 100 full-time positions.
Mr. Howell said the system continues to offer 95% of its current services through “robust pediatric and outpatient rehabilitation services lines.”
