The new facility will be a 16-bed long term mental healthcare facility. It will also include a four-bed crisis receiving center, which was designed to help lower the population in hospitals and jails.
The center will be located next to Klamath Basin’s current facility, doubling the organization’s total number of beds.
“The current capacity of eight beds respite and eight beds residential, and zero beds for crisis receiving is simply not enough to meet the need in Klamath County,” KBBH Communications Director Abbie McClung told the publication. “So this increased capacity will help us meet that need.”
The facility was made possible by a $2.6 million grant from the Oregon Health Authority and a donation of vacant land from Klamath County.
Construction is slated to begin in 2023 and wrap in 2024.
