The new unit includes a 17-bed inpatient space that treats patients ages 5 to 11 in one wing and 12 to 17 in the other. The unit also features an outdoor space, a day room for social interaction and additional spaces for activities such as arts and crafts.

The development of this unit began in 2018 as an expansion of the former 10-bed inpatient unit at Good Samaritan Hospital, the report said. The new unit at Kentucky Children’s is set to begin taking patients on June 25.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place October 20–22 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
