K-Assist to pay $243K in false claims settlement

K-Assist, a Hamden, Conn.-based behavioral health provider, is required to pay over $243,000 to resolve allegations that it violated federal and state False Claims Acts, the Justice Department reported April 18.

Kelly Stutzman, a professional counselor and owner of K-Assist, was also named in the settlement for allegedly submitting claims to Medicaid for services that were not provided by a licensed professional.

Ms. Stutzman has agreed to pay $63,764.23 in restitution and be subject to a three-year suspended jail sentence and five-year conditional discharge as part of a separate criminal charge for health insurance fraud.
