The Integrated Reentry and Correctional Support program uses peer-driven methods to connect those with mental health and substance use disorders to programs that aim to divert them from the justice system toward more appropriate treatment.
The program launched at Indiana’s Blackford, Daviess, Dearborn, Delaware and Scott County jails, according to the report.
If the program is successful at those jails, Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration plans to expand it to more local jails within the next three years, the report stated.
