Illinois psychiatrist found guilty of $1.2M Medicaid fraud

A Chicago psychiatrist was found guilty of more than $1.2 million in Medicaid fraud, the Wednesday Journal reported Feb. 6. 

William McMiller, MD, operated Dr. Bill's Learning Center in Chicago and Oak Park, Ill. The clinic provides clinical therapy, psychiatric care and tutoring for children, the Wednesday Journal reported. 

Dr. McMiller was found guilty of submitting claims to Illinois' Medicaid program for services not provided, according to the outlet. He was first charged, alongside his niece who handled billing for his clinics, in 2020, the Wednesday Journal reported at the time. 

A judge found Dr. McMiller guilty of theft of government property by deception and theft of government property by unauthorized control, felonies punishable by six to 30 years in prison. He was also found guilty of vendor fraud, punishable by four to 20 years in prison, according to the Wednesday Journal. 

Dr. McMiller's sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 29.
