Delaware seeks behavioral health provider for citizens on probation

Delaware's Department of Correction is looking for a new behavioral health treatment and assessment provider for individuals on probation, NPR affiliate Delaware Public Media reported Nov. 29.

The state has had a contract with Gateway Institute, a probation behavioral health treatment and assessment provider, since 2019. It is unclear if the company will renew its contract with Delaware.

If the contract is not renewed, some of Gateway's counselors may be allowed to continue working with clients they have in Delaware.

"If Gateway chooses not to take part in the next contract, we've had contractors in the past allow their staff to onboard with the new contractor," Delaware Bureau of Community Corrections Deputy Chief Heidi Collier told the news outlet. "Though that would be at the discretion of the new contractor versus the old contractor."

The new three-year contract is slated to begin in January 2023, if Gateway bids to renew.
