Durango, Colo.-based Axis Health System will transition its regional crisis center to a walk-in crisis center on July 1. The change follows the June 30 closure of the center’s acute treatment unit.

The walk-in crisis center will continue providing 24/7 crisis intervention while expanding stabilization, assessment, treatment and recovery services. New services include 24/7 walk-in behavioral health crisis assessment, same-day psychiatric evaluation and medication management, 23-hour observation and stabilization services, expanded crisis stabilization, peer support, care coordination and enhanced substance use disorder treatment, according to a June 29 news release from the system.

For individuals requiring a higher level of care, Axis Health System said it will identify the most appropriate option and coordinate referrals. The organization is also developing rapid-access psychiatric and medication-assisted treatment services for opioid use disorder, alcohol use disorder and other substance use conditions, with additional information expected later this year.

At the Becker's Fall Behavioral Health Summit, taking place November 4–5 in Chicago, behavioral health leaders and executives will explore strategies for expanding access to care, integrating services, addressing workforce challenges and leveraging innovation to improve outcomes across the behavioral health continuum.
