Colorado psychiatric provider to lay off 71

West Springs Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo., is reportedly laying off workers in the billing department, ABC affiliate KJCT reported May 31.

A WARN notice filed by Grand Junction-based Mind Springs Health, which operates the facility, said layoffs would occur between May 31 and June 3. The notice indicates 71 layoffs would occur, including 65 permanent positions and six temporary positions. The layoffs affect multiple areas, including executive positions, clinicians, revenue cycle and human resources. The majority layoffs are within Mind Springs and do not affect clinical positions at West Springs Hospital, a spokesperson for Mind Springs confirmed to Becker's

Mind Springs is "working to assist displaced workers in other capacities within the hospital and other services," according to the WARN notice.

On May 30, leaders at the psychiatric hospital agreed on a new contract with Rocky Mountain Health Plans, its largest payer and a UnitedHealthcare company, for the next fiscal year. "This new agreement with RMHP removes the immediacy of West Springs Hospital possibly closing," John Sheehan, president and CEO of West Springs Hospital, said in a May 29 statement

Becker's has reached out to West Springs Hospital and will update this article as more information becomes available.
