Children's Minnesota to open inpatient mental health unit

Children's Minnesota will open the health system's first pediatric mental health unit at its St. Paul hospital Nov. 29.

The unit features 22 rooms, calming designs and outdoor access, according to a Nov. 17 news release from the health system. The unit is one of few in the U.S. to allow a patient's parent to stay overnight with their child.

A care team including psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, nurses and art therapists will staff the unit and provide individualized treatment for each patient, according to the release.
