Children's Hospital Los Angeles receives $2.5M grant for behavioral health research

Children's Hospital Los Angeles has received a five-year $2.5 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration as part of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.

The grant will be used to support clinical training and research on the mental health crisis among children and youth through the Community-Partnered Pediatric Residency Training in Mental and Behavioral Health project, according to a Jan. 31 release.

The project aims to train up to 190 pediatric residents at CHLA on mental and behavioral health care in the primary care setting. Christine Mirzaian, MD, will serve as the grant's principal investigator and project developer.

CHLA was one of 24 grant recipients across the country and the only hospital in Los Angeles county to be selected. It is also one of the largest pediatrician training programs in the nation.
