Cascade Behavioral Health Hospital in Tukwila, Wash., is closing its doors, according to a June 2 report from the Seattle Times.
The 137-bed psychiatric facility is owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare and is expected to cease operations by July 31. The hospital plans to lay off an estimated 288 employees and has rapidly reduced the number of patients in open wards to 40.
The hospital has served approximately 25,000 psychiatric patients since it first opened a decade ago. The closure follows several concerns over staff-to-patient ratios and safety, including a three-month strike in 2021, the report said.
