California to inspect Kaiser Permanente's mental health services after concerns reported

The California Department of Managed Health Care is evaluating Kaiser Permanente's mental health services, the health system said May 18.

The scrutiny comes on the heels of Kaiser's mental health workers in Hawaii launching a three-day strike over how the Oakland, Calif.-based health system allegedly treats mental health patients and funds its behavioral health departments.

"We have been notified by the California Department of Managed Health Care that it will be undertaking a new survey of Kaiser Permanente's mental health and substance use disorder care services, in response to concerns it has received," Kaiser said in the statement.

"We have informed the DMHC that we welcome the department's new survey of our mental healthcare services. We look forward to working collaboratively to identify ways to improve, so we can better help our members with all of their mental health needs."
