Cities, counties, nonprofits, for-profit organizations and tribal entities can apply for funding through Dec. 13, according to a July 17 news release from Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.
The funds will go toward outpatient and inpatient treatment beds and community treatment centers. Up to $1.5 billion of the funding is open only to counties, cities and tribal entities, according to the governor’s office.
In March, California voters approved Proposition 1, which allowed the state to borrow $4.4 billion to build new treatment beds and sites.
A second round of funding of the remaining $1.1 billion will be available in 2025, according to the release. The grant is expected to create 6,800 new residential treatment beds and 26,700 outpatient treatment spots in the state.
