Allentown, Penn.-based Blackbird Health opened a pediatric mental health clinic in Sterling, Va., expanding care for children, teens and young adults across Loudoun County.
The Sterling clinic, announced Nov. 4, is Blackbird’s fourth Northern Virginia location. It joins the company’s sites in Tysons, Burke and Centreville.
Families begin with a comprehensive evaluation, including assessments for ADHD and autism, and receive a personalized care plan. Services include individual and family therapy, medication management, psychiatric testing, executive function coaching, and parent therapy and coaching. Psychiatric providers, therapists and other clinicians build treatment plans together, so families don’t have to coordinate separate providers themselves.
Blackbird uses a hybrid model that combines in-person and virtual visits, and new patients can complete their initial evaluation from home.
Blackbird CEO Tom Peterson, a Northern Virginia resident, said finding care can feel like one more obstacle for worried families. Mr. Peterson said the Sterling site gives Loudoun County families another place to get answers and a coordinated care team.
Michael Tang, MD, chief medical officer of Blackbird Health, called Loudoun County a large, growing and diverse community with a wide range of clinical needs. Dr. Tang said offering both virtual and in-person care helps clinicians “better understand each child’s full picture” and connect families to support sooner.
Blackbird also plans to use the clinic to build relationships with pediatricians, schools, therapists and community organizations in Loudoun County to support referrals and continuity of care.
The Sterling opening follows Blackbird’s recent expansions into Maryland, with clinics in Frederick and Gaithersburg, and into the Pittsburgh area.
