Behavioral health recap: This week's most-read stories

Here are the most-read stories published by Becker's since July 29:

1. A report published in July by the nonprofit advocacy group Disability Rights DC alleges ongoing abuse and neglect of adult and adolescent patients by staff at the Psychiatric Institute of Washington is traumatizing and injuring patients.

2. Kingston, Pa.-based Commonwealth Health First Hospital is closing Oct. 30, along with its affiliated outpatient behavioral health services. The hospital said it no longer has enough staff to accept new admissions.

3. Nine new behavioral health centers are being built or planned in Massachusetts, Nebraska, Ohio, Texas, North Carolina and Washington.

4. Anaheim Community Hospital in Orange County (Calif.) opened Aug. 2 as a general acute medical-surgical care facility with inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care. Before Anaheim, the area hadn't had a dedicated psychiatric hospital in over 40 years.

5. Abbott's deep brain stimulation device was awarded the FDA's breakthrough device designation for treatment-resistant depression.
