The opening of the new center marks the halfway point of the BHECN’s goal to develop six regional behavioral health sites across the site, joining the sites at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and Chadron State College, according to a Sept. 1 news release from the education center.
The BHECN — which is based at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha — was developed by the Nebraska Legislature to recruit, retain and increase the competency of the state’s behavioral health workforce, the Nebraska Examiner reported Sept. 5.
The education center received $25.5 million from the state in 2022 to address the workforce shortage, the report said.
