Behavioral center medical director gets 8 years in prison for fraud

Mark Agresti, MD, was sentenced to 100 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release for his role in a four year, $106 million false claims scheme, the Labor Department said June 27.

Dr. Agresti is the former medical director of West Palm Beach, Fla.-based addiction recovery center Good Decisions Sober Living, the department said. From September 2011 to December 2015, he falsely billed private insurers and federal benefit programs for medically unnecessary drug tests.

He and his co-defendants were ordered to pay $31 million in restitution, the department said.
