BCBS exec moves to behavioral health company

Former BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee executive Clay Phillips was named senior vice president of strategy and managed care of Summit BHC, a behavioral health and addiction treatment center in Franklin, Tenn., local news source Brentwood Homepage reported June 2.

During his 15-year tenure at BlueCross BlueShield, Mr. Phillips worked on value-based contracts and performance programs, and implemented new care delivery models and alternative payment programs.

"Clay's deep knowledge of payer and governmental systems and his experience in healthcare innovation and value-based contracting will help Summit continue to lead in the behavioral healthcare space," Summit CEO Brent Turner said in a press release. "We are thrilled to have him on board as we grow our footprint throughout the country."

In the past few years, Summit has hired a new COO and CEO and acquired seven more psychiatric hospitals, bringing its total inpatient facilities to 31.
