Ascension Providence to close Texas behavioral health outpatient center

Ascension Providence has announced that it will close the DePaul Center and its outpatient behavioral health clinic in Waco, Texas, CBS affiliate KWTX reported Oct. 3.

"Unfortunately, the center is not adaptable to renovation and expansion in a way that will meet evolving industry standards and the growing needs for mental and behavioral health in the community, especially among those who are most vulnerable," Ascension said in a statement on the closing.

Following the closing of the center on Dec. 1 and the clinic on Dec. 31, Ascension Providence, part of St. Louis-based Ascension, said it will continue to serve mental and behavioral patients in crisis in the emergency department. Patients will receive care in a seven-bed "green unit" before being discharged or transferred to other facilities, the report said.

Ascension will also be moving the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network crisis call center — which is currently housed in the DePaul Center — to a new diversion center opening this month.
