American Osteopathic Association elects 1st psychiatrist as president

Robert G.G. Piccinini, DO, was inaugurated as the 129th president of the American Osteopathic Association on July 19. 

Dr. Piccinini is the first psychiatrist and the first graduate of East Lansing-based Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine to lead the association, according to a July 23 news release from the AOA. The association represents more than 200,000 osteopathic physicians and medical students in the U.S. 

Dr. Piccinini previously served as chief of psychiatry at Clinton Township, Mich.-based Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, and is a former president of the American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists and the Michigan Osteopathic Association. He has also served on the board of directors of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.
