A study funded by employee behavioral health provider Ascellus Health analyzed treatment records of 103 essential workers experiencing delayed recovery from COVID-19 due to stress or mental health disorders.
Ascellus clinicians provided psychiatric evaluation and three sessions of work-focused cognitive behavioral therapy to the patients, who had been referred for services between May 2020 and August 2021.
Researchers compared the patients’ recovery, work status and self-reported work capability and daily functioning before and after receiving CBT.
After treatment, the workers spent less time off than time off pre-treatment and reported improvement in work performance, showing the effectiveness of integrating work-focused CBT into treatment regimens.
