Addiction medicine physicians and other healthcare professionals will meet with lawmakers to advocate for expanded access to opioid use disorder treatment and residential care for older adults.
Attendees will urge Congress to reintroduce and co-sponsor the Modernizing Opioid Treatment Access Act, which would permit board-certified addiction physicians to prescribe methadone for pickup at community pharmacies, Currently, 80% of U.S. counties lack federally regulated opioid treatment programs, limiting access to methadone, according to a Sept. 16 news release shared with Becker’s.
They will also call on lawmakers to reintroduce the Residential Recovery for Seniors Act, which would establish Medicare coverage for qualifying residential addiction treatment programs.
