Sen. John Fetterman checks in at Walter Reed for clinical depression

Sen. John Fetterman, Democrat of Pennsylvania, checked himself in at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, The New York Times reported Feb. 16.

Mr. Fetterman, who suffered a near-fatal stroke in 2022, is seeking care for clinical depression, the report said. Brian Monahan, MD, the attending physician in Congress, evaluated Mr. Fetterman on Feb. 13 and recommended he seek inpatient care at Walter Reed.

The senator checked himself in Feb. 15, the report said. He was hospitalized Feb. 8 after feeling lightheaded, but was discharged later in the week.

Mr. Fetterman won the highest-profile Senate race in the nation in 2022, beating out Trump-endorsed Mehmet Oz, MD, by five percentage points. The lingering physical effects of his stroke were often highlighted by campaign ads and political pundits.
