The incident involved five to six patients in the hospital’s girls’ unit, and officials recovered several homemade weapons, the report said. All six arrested are facing charges of aggravated riot.

“We’ve had problems with…a few of these same individuals running away before,” Chief Toby Meoro said, according to the Feb. 21 report. “We’re trying to work with Belmont Pines and trying to establish some kind of protocol. I understand they are not a lockdown facility, but they may want to look into internal security.”

No staff or patients were injured, but the facility sustained minor damage, the hospital said. The facility remains open and “fully operational.”
