5 behavioral health hospitals closing, restructuring

Here are five behavioral health hospitals and providers that are closing or restructuring that Becker's has reported on since May 18:

  1. Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health began the process of closing psych units and behavioral health services at some of its locations to make way for its standalone behavioral health hospital.
  2. New York City-based primary care and mental health provider Cityblock has announced plans to restructure, resulting in a 12 percent reduction in its workforce.
  3. St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, Miss., closed its behavioral health services and eliminated 157 positions, accounting for 5.5 percent of the hospital's total workforce. 
  4. Cascade Behavioral Health Hospital in Tukwila, Wash., closed its doors following several concerns over staff-to-patient ratios and safety, including a three-month strike in 2021.
  5. Yakima, Wash.-based behavioral health provider Comprehensive Healthcare closed two of its facilities in Goldendale and White Salmon.
