The 60-bed behavioral health hospital will be the first to open in South Carolina in more than three decades. It will provide both inpatient and outpatient mental health services to patients of all ages, ranging from adolescents to the elderly.
With the development of the hospital, leaders seek to increase access to mental health services in the Lowcountry region and open up space in emergency departments, where patients who needed psychiatric care were originally going.
