14 behavioral health projects, grants totaling $411M

Here are 14 behavioral health projects and grants totaling over $411 million Becker's reported on in August:

  1. Washoe County (Nev.) Commissioners have voted to buy the closed West Hills Behavioral Health Hospital in Reno, Nev., for $5 million, with an estimated $10 million needed for repairs.
  2. Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers is expanding its flagship clinic in Milwaukee to add substance use disorder services. The project is funded in part by a $4.7 million gift from Milwaukee-based Froedtert Health and will include a 21,000-square-foot addition to the clinic.
  3. McCall Center for Behavioral Health, based in Torrington, Conn., purchased a house that will undergo a $325,000 renovation and be used for individuals in recovery from substance use and mental health disorders.
  4. Wisconsin-based ThedaCare completed the second phase of modernization of its behavioral health services at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. The $100 million modernization project spans four phases, with the third phase already in progress.
  5. Meridian Behavioral Healthcare is leading the effort to build a central receiving facility for four mental healthcare facilities in Gainesville, Fla. The project began with a $500,000 investment from Alachua County and the city of Gainesville, and the Florida Legislature approved over $1 million in May for annual operations.
  6. Children's Medical Center Foundation received a $1 million donation that will support the expansion of Children's Medical Center Plano in Texas, including increasing emergency behavioral health services.
  7. The El Camino Healthcare District and El Camino Health allocated $11.02 million in grants to programs in 10 California cities within Santa Clara County.
  8. Mental health provider Oaklawn held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new crisis center in South Bend, Ind. The $1.2 million facility is expected to serve roughly 3,600 patients annually with its 25-person staff of medical professionals.
  9. Strafford County has signed a deal with the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services to make 16 beds available for nursing home eligible citizens at Riverside Rest Home in Dover. The contract includes $340,000 to update the unit and will move to the governor and executive council for approval.
  10. Washington state purchased the recently closed Cascade Behavioral Health Hospital in Tukwila for almost $30 million.
  11. Heart of Texas Behavioral Health received $8 million in state funding to develop a crisis services facility in Waco.
  12. Galveston County in Texas approved $8 million for the Gulf Coast Center to build a mental health crisis center in La Marque.
  13. The Mental Health Innovation Foundation and Omaha, Neb.-based Children's Hospital & Medical Center partnered to develop a youth mental health facility with a $110 million budget.
  14. New Jersey allocated more than $120 million to support mental and behavioral health programs across the state.
