13 best medical schools for psychiatry, per US News

Columbia University in New York City was named the best school for psychiatry, according to U.S. News and World Report's "Best Medical Schools" list for 2023-24. 

The rankings, published May 10, are based on faculty resources, the academic achievements of entering students and qualitative assessments by schools and residency directors. Here is the full methodology.

Here are the 13 schools with top-ranked psychiatry programs: 

1. Columbia University (New York City)

2. Harvard University* (Boston)

3. Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore)

4. University of California San Francisco

5. University of Pennsylvania* (Philadelphia)

6. Yale University (New Haven, Conn.)

7. University of Pittsburgh

8 (tie). Cornell University* (New York City)

8 (tie). Duke University* (Durham, N.C.)
