Clinical psychology was the specialty with the third-most providers leaving the workforce, with 5,985 providers departing between 2021 and 2022. Internal medicine and family practice providers had the highest declines.
Over 5,000 psychiatrists left the workforce during 2021 and 2022, according to the report.
In addition to over 100,000 physicians and nurse practitioners leaving the workforce, over 10,000 licensed clinical social workers left the profession during the report time period.
