North Dakota is the highest paying state for psychiatrists in 2024, according to new Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

Becker’s used BLS data to determine the annual mean salary in every state, as well as calculate the hourly adjusted wage by cost of living in 2024.

Here are the states with the highest annual wage and the states with the highest pay based on adjusted costs of living.

North Dakota: $343,680

California: $328,560

Indiana: $327,760

Minnesota: $312,500

Utah: $310,080

South Dakota: $302,390

Connecticut: $295,850

Louisiana: $295,290

Illinois: $288,690

New Mexico: $283,600

States by highest hourly wage, with adjusted cost of living

North Dakota: $174.66

Indiana: $172.22

Minnesota: $159.66

South Dakota: $154.99

Louisiana: $154.30

Illinois: $152.86
