10 states with the most psychiatrists per capita

Only 6 percent of adults who experienced a major depressive episode in the last year are receiving treatment, highlighting the nation's need to prioritize mental healthcare.

Though 10 states were considered to be officially designated health professional shortage areas due to a lack of mental health providers, some states are better equipped to treat those who need it.

Massachusetts has one psychiatrist per every 2,437 people. For comparison, Idaho, the state with the fewest psychiatrists per capita, has one psychiatrist per every 16,905 people.
