Virginia, Kepro ink $113M contract for behavioral health utilization

Virginia’s Department of Medical Assistance Services has signed a $113 million contract with Keystone Peer Review Organization, a subsidiary of healthcare technology company CNSI, to manage behavioral health utilization.

Kepro will oversee utilization management and case management services for Virginians using the state’s Cardinal Care Medicaid program, according to an April 26 news release. It will manage service authorizations for all inpatient and outpatient medical and behavioral health services within Cardinal Care’s fee-for-service program. 

Additionally, the contract with Kepro will encompass service authorizations of residential treatment for children and adults and for community mental health rehabilitation. 

The contract also includes the provision of call center services for providers and members, a behavioral health crisis line and care coordination for medical and behavioral health services.

The contract specifies a five-year base of work with an additional five optional years.
