King of Prussia, Pa.-based Universal Health Services has begun the construction of a $63 million mental health hospital in the Kansas City, Mo., metropolitan area, which is scheduled to open in 2026.

The new facility will offer walk-in and inpatient services for all ages to address the ongoing mental health crisis.

The project marks UHS’s first investment in the Kansas City area as the state seeks to make services more accessible to the community.

Over 1 million — about 28% — of adults throughout the state used mental health treatment services in 2024, according to a state report.
