UC San Diego launches mobile mental health crisis team

UC San Diego has launched a mobile mental health crisis team to address the mental health needs of students at the university.

The Triton CORE team was developed as a collaboration between the school's counseling and psychological services, police department and student affairs case management, according to an April 6 report from the university.

The team currently includes two full-time clinicians, who will be dispatched to students experiencing mental health crises, with or without police officers. The program is situated within the UCSD Police Department to coordinate response efforts using an interdisciplinary approach.

The Triton CORE team is funded through California Assembly Bill 128, which addresses the mental health needs of students within the UC system.
