The top 10 mental health diagnoses of 2022

Generalized anxiety disorder was the most commonly diagnosed mental health condition in 2022, according to data from Definitive Healthcare. 

Definitive Healthcare used 2022 data from the Atlas All-Payor Claims dataset to compile a list of the most common mental health diagnoses given across all facility types in 2022.

Here are the 10 mental health conditions most diagnosed in 2022, along with the percentage of total mental health diagnoses each condition represented:

1. Generalized anxiety disorder (8.6 percent)

2. Anxiety disorder, unspecified (7.5 percent)

3. Opioid dependence, uncomplicated (7.4 percent)

4. Major depressive disorder, recurrent, moderate (3.7 percent)

5. Autistic disorder (3.4 percent)

6. Post-traumatic stress disorder, unspecified (2.8 percent)

7. Depression, unspecified (2.7 percent)

8. Nicotine dependence, cigarettes, uncomplicated (2.6 percent)

9. Major depressive disorder, single episode, unspecified (2.3 percent)

10. Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, combined type (2.2 percent)
