State superlatives: Best and worst states for access to mental healthcare and more

Here are the best and worst states across a variety of metrics that Becker's has reported on since June 29:

  1. New Mexico is the state with the highest rate of adolescents reporting depressive episodes.
  2. New Jersey is the state with the lowest rate of adolescents reporting depressive episodes.
  3. North Dakota is the state with the best self-reported mental health.
  4. Utah is the state with the worst self-reported mental health.
  5. Vermont is the state with the highest percentage of children who received any mental health care/counseling in the past 12 months.
  6. Hawaii is the state with the lowest percentage of children who received any mental health care/counseling in the past 12 months.
  7. Vermont is the state with the best access to mental healthcare.
  8. Texas is the state with the worst access to mental healthcare.
  9. West Virginia is the state with the highest drug overdose mortality rate per 100,000 people.
  10. Nebraska is the state with the lowest drug overdose mortality rate.
